AUTHOR AJ LAPE – The Darcy Walker Series
GENRE: Young Adult Fiction/Teen Mystery
What is the title of your book?
My next big thing is "No Brainer,” the second installment in the Darcy Walker Series and follow up to “Grade A Stupid.” It will be released in the spring of 2013. At least that’s the plan unless a solar flare incinerates me between now and then.
How did you come by the idea?
Honest to God, I was eating a bag of Doritos…I get very creative when I eat Doritos. Book one was written and I needed a title for book two…came to me in one munch…along with about 150 calories of saturated fats.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
…If you thought Darcy stirs up trouble in “Grade A Stupid,” “No Brainer” is going to have you popping antacids and throwing your books, kindles, and NOOKS up against the wall. Don’t send me the bill…please.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
“No Brainer” was written in less than six months, compliments of 180 cans of Coke.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I hope I give readers the fun of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Series while giving them a little bit of Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games and James Patterson as a side dish. I want readers to feel every emotion possible when reading my books. So, if someone laughs, cries, hides, or wants to become a card-carrying member of the NRA then I’ve done my job.

GENRE: Adult Paranormal/Fantasy Romance
What is the title of your book?
Night Aberrations. It’s the first installment of the five part Night Aberrations series.
How did you come by the idea?
I wanted to write a story that was totally unique, but it had to be a paranormal or fantasy because those are my favorite genres. I racked my brain for weeks trying different scenarios and characters until I found the perfect ones.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Night Aberrations is a story of how hate and greed can tear apart a couple who loves one another, even if Fate is on their side.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
I wrote and rewrote Night Aberrations three times over the course of two grueling years. It was originally written in third person and at one time it had a different hero.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
That’s another tough question! I wrote this novel because I love Paranormal Romance. It’s a great genre with a lot of space in which to write. My characters have the freedom to have any power or gift they choose. They’re only limited by my imagination. It’s my hope that I’ve done a good job telling Soren and Emelie’s story and that any mature reader that searches for something a little different than the usual vampires and werewolves will enjoy this book.

GENRE: Erotic
What is the title of your book?
Ghosts and Lovers: First Confession
How did you come by the idea?
I honestly never know with my books. It all starts with me day-dreaming (I’m slightly bent in the brain lol). For this book I only did the research about half-way through and then only 10 minutes of it. For the others, the idea was born from the odd sections in my mind and then further shaped by research and dreams. I kid you not - I dream a lot less when I write. Freud would have a field day!
Which actors would you choose to play your characters if it were a movie?
Simone would be perfectly played by Eva Longoria but she’d need to adopt a South African accent, which is more like the British accent. And the ghost… well… I don’t want to give too much away and will if I tell here. A good match for the hubby would be Ryan Reynolds or Ty from Extreme Home Makeover.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
An erotic suspense with a touch of paranormal about a woman who had a hard lesson thrust upon her. *puns inadvertently intended - grin*
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It’s not just erotic. There is a huge moral in the story and an element of realism despite the title and the paranormal twist. Having worked as a therapist in a past career, I was privy to many confessions, and whilst I do not ever break confidentiality, I do always try to bring my understanding of the human psyche into the characters I develop. I need to use the six years of studying psychology for something *lol*.
GENRE: HORROR
What is the title of your next book?
"Afterbirth"
Where did the idea come from for the book?
It is the second in the Strandville Zombie Series, so the idea came from writing "Cure".
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
"In Strandville, there are worse fates than becoming undead".
How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
"Cure" took me well over a year. "Afterbirth" has been five months and counting. I think the rough draft will be done by December.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
That's a tough one because I don't read a ton of zombie fiction and "Cure" is being called original in the genre by those who do. I really am stumped on this one.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Working in medicine for fifteen years before finally taking the FT writing plunge is what inspired me to write the series. That, and a life-long love of horror.
What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?
This series is about characters, emotions, grudges, regrets, loss, and savior. Yes, it is a zombie book, but it's more human than that and it explores how far people would go to save, protect, or avenge the ones they love. There's something for everyone and plenty of gore. This series does not fall short on plot and it doesn't rely solely on the undead for its thrill factor hence the tag line: "There are worse fates than becoming undead".
