I know there are lots of you out there who bitch and moan and complain every time it snows. Hey! Guess what? We live in Michigan! Duh. It’s going to snow. When you least expect it and when you’ve been taunted with 50 degree weather… It. Will. Snow. If you’re over the age of 21, you should know this by now. This morning, as I shoveled yet again, (this time, before the snow blowers made their way out to pollute the crisp morning air), I was simply amused at the mass quantity of the “wintery mix” and saw only beauty all around me. It was quite magical looking….everything covered in clean, crisp white and all of the hard edges softened…the landscape transformed in a matter of hours. Sure, I get irritated at the work of clearing it sometimes. Who doesn’t? But if you live here, it’s going to happen. Don’t spend your energy being annoyed at it. Find some beauty in it or remember something special from your childhood about it and then move on. Why spend the emotional currency on something as silly as getting upset at the snow. Aren’t there bigger problems of the world (or your life) that deserve your energy and thought? How about spending that energy on your family or your child or a problem at work? Prioritize, people. Prioritize. It’s all perspective. I choose to take this snowy day and pretend that I’ve been dropped in the middle of a giant snow globe for a mini-vacation. After all, the skies will turn grey and rainy, and the ground will be wet and muddy soon enough. Then you all can complain about that.
Now, why don’t you go outside and play in the snow? And then treat yourself to a big cup of cocoa with extra marshmallows (and maybe you can make it "Irish"!) Gotta go! Time to shovel again... (Now...where did I put the Baileys?)
