It seems like to every emotion we feel, there’s always a flip side. The other side of the coin so to speak. I mean, how do we know true happiness if we’ve never suffered true sadness? Or true excitement, without utter boredom. It’s really a cool concept, when you think about it. I choose to embrace both sides of the coin. To accept all these experiences of life and humanity and learn what I can. So I cherish the rejections…those letters that tell me I’m not good enough. Because even though I have to feel rejection, I get to feel the flip side of that coin – acceptance. And that’s a tremendous feeling.
Thank you to all of you who’ve stood by me through all of this…I just love reading your comments. I am truly lucky to know such amazing people. It’s tough going through this process and hoping one day I’ll be able to go to the library and show my kid the book I wrote. I bet we all have some pretty amazing people in our lives, don’t we? I say we raise our glasses (preferably full of a good Pinot Noir) and toast to all those amazingly supportive people in our lives. Take time today to say “thank you” to them – to compliment them on their kindness. Too often, we only hear the bad stuff. Criticism at work, negative comments from friends or neighbors…and we don’t give due credit to those who have been truly kind to us. So take a moment and let that person know you appreciate them. I truly believe what goes around, comes around.
Here’s my official “Thank You” for today: thank you MaryJanice Davidson. Now, some of you may be wondering who that is. She is an amazing author with a truly sparkling personality. If you’re into Chick-Lit, I highly recommend you check her out. Not only are her books wildly entertaining and fun, they are super-fast reads, have great drama and often feature strong, sarcastic, romantic leading ladies. On top of all that, she is truly inspiring and supportive of new authors. I can’t say enough good things about her. She is my idol. (Or one of them at least.) She’s also written some great stuff giving guidelines for getting published, (Escaping the Slush Pile) and she’s honestly open and communicative with her fans. If I ever get the chance to meet her, I will bow down and kiss her feet after offering her Cinnabons and the most fabulous chocolate milkshake I can get my hands on. So this blog is dedicated to you, MaryJanice, and to your fabulous characters (may they live a long, long, long, long time – especially Betsy and Sinclair!) So, while it may be a while before I get published, I know that I've done the best that I can do and sometimes these things take time. (Hopefully not as long as your 10-year struggle…Geesh! God bless you woman – you’ve got gumption!) Thank you for creating some memorable characters and keeping me on the edge of my seat. (Or out on the deck getting bit by mosquitos and reading by flashlight until the wee hours of the night…)
Having published 70(+) books, Ms. Davidson has tons of great series out there – I’m sure you’ll find one you like. (My personal favorite is the Undead and Unwed series). Check ‘em out at the library or the book store next time you’re looking for something good to read. After all, my book’s not available yet! (Haha!)
Feel free to comment on this blog and to all you site surfers out there, thank YOU for checking me out! Who knows, maybe one of you will get to be in one of my next adventures!
Happy Reading!
Julie
